Formula 1 Auto racing Chinese Grand Prix in 2024

Chinese Grand Prix: Auto racing teams nurture next-generation professionals in Shanghai.

The Formula One World Championship's Chinese Grand Prix is all set to begin tomorrow in Shanghai. In light of the big event, F1 auto racing teams conducted a special tutorial for middle school students in the Chinese city on Wednesday. Chen Tong reports.

Twenty middle school students experienced the thrill of kart racing, testing their reaction speed and learning about the physics behind the sport. The tutorial was given by the Aston Martin Aramco Formula One Team to not only inspire the youth ahead of the upcoming F1 event in Shanghai but also to encourage the next generation of Chinese auto-racing experts.

PEDRO DE LA ROSA, Team Ambassador, Aston Martin Aramco Formula One Team said, "It's also very important for China. The fact that you have a great circuit and a Grand Prix, but also have a driver like Zhou, we also create interest in the country to have not only more drivers but also more engineers."

Jessica Hawkins, the first woman Formula One test driver for the modern-day ground effect car, also participated in the tutorial. She expressed delight at seeing female students express an interest in the sport.

JESSICA HAWKINS, Driver Ambassador, Aston Martin Aramco Formula One Team said, "I think female participation is growing rapidly, especially since I first started. I can remember being able to list all the women I knew on one hand, and now it's just growing massively. I think it's really important that we keep pushing for equality and diversity in the sport." Chen Tong, CGTN, Shanghai, stated, "There may only be twenty people on the track, but thousands work behind the scenes to ensure the competitions succeed. That includes engineers, mechanics, and team managers. Auto racing isn't a mature competition in China, but the plan aims to spark interest among the next generation."
